Sharp pain when drinking cold liquids after filling?
"I got a composite filling 4 days ago. Every time I drink cold water, there is a sudden sharp twinge that goes away in a couple seconds. Is this normal?"
Mild cold sensitivity for 1 to 2 weeks is very common as the pulp tissue settles after cavity preparation. Use a desensitizing potassium-nitrate toothpaste. If pain becomes throbbing or lingers for minutes, visit your dentist to check if the bite needs a minor adjustment.
Am I too old for clear aligners at age 38?
"My lower teeth have crowded over the past few years. Can clear aligners fix this in adults?"
You are never too old! As long as your bone support and gums are healthy, clear aligners work identically in adult patients. In fact, over 40% of our orthodontic patients are adults aged 30 to 60. Treatment usually takes between 6 to 12 months.
Gums bleed whenever I brush in the morning. Should I stop brushing?
"Every morning there is blood in the sink when spitting out toothpaste. Do I need to be gentler?"
Do NOT stop brushing! Bleeding is caused by bacterial plaque buildup along the gumline that triggers inflammation (gingivitis). Switch to an ultra-soft bristle toothbrush, floss daily, and book a professional ultrasonic scaling cleaning with a dentist.
